During the latest edition of the America’s Cup sailing competition in Barcelona, Mobility Monitor successfully implemented an innovative remote monitoring system to track the movement of vessels in the northern entrance of the Port of Barcelona.
This project posed a significant technological and logistical challenge due to several key factors:
- The international media exposure of the most prominent sailing event in the world.
- A single Mobility Monitor identification camera covering an entrance over 300 meters wide.
- The large number of vessels that accessed the Port of Barcelona during these months.
- The enormous variety of vessel types, ranging from a three-meter kayak to a ferry over 200 meters long, including racing sailboats, fishing boats, and newly launched vessels, some difficult to classify, introduced specifically for the event.
- The need to create the entire database from scratch.
We are pleased to have successfully identified and classified in real time nearly all of the more than 52,000 vessel movements that passed through the northern entrance over the four months of competition.
